Touching Lives = Influence

Today, I am in Portland Oregon.  I arrived here yesterday to gather with friends and family to celebrate the life of Everett "Jim" Hooton.  (My Great Uncle).  In 1991 I moved to Cabo San Lucas.  I was invited to come and live their by Ed Hooton (Jim's son, my cousin).  I lived with Jim and Ed.  Jim was a nurturing "father figure" for me during those early days in Cabo.  As we gather and remember his glorious life, it is amazing to see how many people he touched.  He was a supportive, loving force in many many lives.  At the time someone passes, you get to hear how they touched others in significant ways.

Jim loved helping other people.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and served his community.  He was a loving husband for 62 years.

“You know, the ancient Egyptians had a beautiful belief about death.  When their souls got to the entrance to heaven, the guards asked two questions.  Their answers determined whether they were able to enter or not.  ‘Have you found joy in your life?’  'Has your life brought joy to others?’”

There is no question that Jim Hooton has answered both questions with an emphatic YES!

I encourage us all to reflect now, during life.  Have you found joy in your life?  Has your life brought joy to others?  Today is a BRAND NEW DAY.  Today, I will find the joy.  Today I will bring the joy.  Today, I will spread the joy.  I know that if I do this on a daily basis, some day, I will be standing next to Jim, both of us PROUD of the lives we've lead.

Here's to you Uncle Jim.  We love you!
